Semeru Mount Hiking Trails Will be Closed Starting January 3 2019 to an Unspecified Time
Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Agency (TNBTS) will temporarily close hiking trails on Mount Semeru starting January 3 2019.
According to the letter number PG.03/T.8/BIDTEK/BIDTEK.1/KSA/12/2018, TNBTS explained the closure of the mountain heights of 3,676 MASL up to Mahameru Peak was anticipation move of bad weather.
"Anticipation of any incident and casualty incident. The weather forecast expected high intensity of rainfall along with strong winds from January to April " said Head of Data Evaluation and Public Relations Sub Division TNBTS Sarif Hidayat on Wednesday (12/26/2018)
He told, "Hiking trail Semeru had been being opened for around 9 months. We hoped the restoration of natural ecosystems along with high intensity of rainfall would run well."
Sarif stated that we hadn’t had report of fallen trees in the hiking area of Mount Semeru lately.
“So tourists still could climb Semeru on new year’s eve,” he said.
